5 Auto Repair Myths that Need to be Put to Bed

It's no secret that cars are expensive. They require constant maintenance and repairs to keep them running smoothly and looking good. Unfortunately, there are a lot of myths out there about car repair that can lead people astray and cause them to spend more money than they have to.

At Grove Street Auto Repair, we want to set the record straight so that you can be an informed car owner who knows how to take care of their vehicle properly. In this article, we will dispel five common auto repair myths and explain why you should never believe them.

    1. YOU SHOULD GET YOUR OIL CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MILES.

This is one of the most common auto repair myths out there and it simply isn't true. The reality is that most cars only need their oil changed every 5,000 miles or so. There are a few exceptions to this rule, but for the most part, you can save yourself some time and money by getting your oil changed every 5,000 miles instead of every 3,000 miles.

    2. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS GO TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS.

Another common auto repair myth is that you should always take your car to the dealership for repairs and maintenance. The truth is that there are many qualified independent auto repair shops that can do just as good of a job (if not better) than the dealership. You'll likely save yourself some money by going to an independent shop, so it's definitely worth considering.

    3. PREMIUM GAS IS BETTER FOR YOUR CAR.

This is yet another auto repair myth that has no basis in reality. The fact is that premium gas is simply higher quality gasoline and it's not necessarily better for your car. Unless your car specifically requires premium gas, you can save yourself some money by filling up with regular gas instead.

    4. YOU DON'T NEED TO WASH YOUR CAR IN THE WINTER.

Many people believe that they don't need to wash their car in the winter because the salt and grime on the roads will just wash away. However, this isn't the case. The salt and grime can actually damage your car's paint if it's not removed in a timely manner. It's best to wash your car at least once a week during the winter to keep it looking its best.

    5. YOU SHOULD INFLATE YOUR TIRES TO THE MAXIMUM PSI.

The final auto repair myth on our list is that you should always inflate your tires to the maximum PSI. This is actually bad for your tires and can lead to premature wear and tear. It's best to inflate your tires to the recommendations in your car's owner's manual.

We hope that this article has helped to dispel some of the common auto repair myths that you may have heard. Remember, it's always best to do your own research and consult with a qualified professional before making any decisions about your car's maintenance or repairs. If you need any assistance, don't hesitate to contact us at Grove Street Auto Repair. We're always happy to help!
